Secure Land Communications (SLC), an Airbus business unit, offers advanced communication and collaboration solutions to gather, process and deploy intelligence. Its portfolio is tailored to the needs of Public Safety, Defence and Transport, Utility and Industry (TUI). It includes infrastructures, devices, applications and services based on Tetra, Tetrapol and Broadband technologies (either single, hybrid or multi-technology solutions). As the European leader and a key international player, SLC has customers in more than 80 countries and employs around 1,150 people in 17 countries. In Finland, Airbus Defence and Space Oy employs around 370 people in Helsinki and Jyväskylä.
We are now looking for two Research Project Trainees to join Strategic Marketing and Technologies team in our Helsinki office. The trainees will join Airbus research project which belongs to a larger Finnish research umbrella project driven by Business Finland. The purpose of the Airbus research project is to address latest satellite communication technology i.e. Low Earth Orbit satellites and to study whether these satellites could be applied in communication services offered mainly for Public Safety user groups (police, fire, rescue, etc.). The research project offers an interesting view towards highly demanding operating environment of Public Safety, and on the other hand towards latest satellite technology.

You will be working with:
- Other companies and research partners involved in the umbrella research project

Your working days may include:
- Clarifying use cases and requirements of Public Safety users
- Analyzing performance of satellite systems vs user requirements
- Carrying out practical measurements
- Setting up demonstrations with real Public Safety communication solutions
What we expect of you
You are aiming for a technical or business degree. We expect you to have at least basic understanding on communication technologies and solutions, and satellite communications. You are capable of producing written documents. You are able to work efficiently both on your own and as a part of team. A fluent English language skill, both in written and verbal, is a prerequisite, other languages are seen as an advantage.
The selected applicant is subject to a Standard Security Clearance conducted by the Finnish Security Intelligence Service.
The trainee period will start as agreed, preferably in the beginning of April 2021. The length of the related research project is two years, and therefore the trainee period is also two years long. The position is full-time during summer time, and part-time (1-2 days per week) during other times.
